PROSPECT OF TODAY’S SOCIETY

We began the 2018 with the initiation of our first programme tagged THE PROSPECT OF TODAYS’ SOCIETY. The programme which was developed in first week of January, found its implementation in two weeks on the decision of the governing council. The event was developed to reach youths and enlighten them on the ill effects of corruption on the Nigeria system and How they could become resourceful in combating the issue of corruption in Nigeria spheres. It was designed to engage youths whom are students in the University of Benin, exposing the ill feature of corruption and equipping their mind to resisting it at all point.

The programme which at about 10am, witnessed the participation of students from different departments in the university as it was strictly a youth-youth programme. The event begain with the residing of the Nigeria National Anthem which represents the Prayer of the Organisation. This then followed with the official opening of the event with Christabel Onojaisike, YAS Attorney General, taking the opening speech. The baton was then immediately passed to Comr. Davidson Okhuoya, who is the Chairman YAS and also the speaker for the event. Comr. Davison defined corruption, stating its types and how it has affected development of Nigeria for decades. He made students understand the dirty nature of corruption and how it affects them directly. He also made time to explain in details how youths can be better instrument in combating corruption ending his lecture with powerful statement, one being: We Have No Other Country to Call Our Own. Room was created for participates to ask questions which made the event interactive and fun too. The programme ended at about 1:00pm with a closing prayer with lot of students showing interest to become part of the body. It was an amazing day for the organisation with close to 40 youths in direct participation. With this, YAS set it pace for more programme to change corrupt psychology as norm in the Nigeria system.
