June 12 of every month is recognised as the official democracy day in Nigeria and we joined the rest of Nigerian citizens to observe the democracy day, reflecting on the success and challenges facing Nigeria. As a body dedicated to impact and a positive change, we observed the day by implementing a programme tagged the Peril of Crime and Corruption on Societal Development. This programme which begun 10am at the University of Benin Parliamentary block, June 12, witnessed the attendance of Comr. Davidson Okhuoya, Chairman YAS; Prof. Francis Omoruyi, Pro-Chairman YAS; Mr. Aghahowa, representing YAS Secretary; Prof Michael E. Aziken, Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, Represented by Prof Kensington Obahiagbon; and Hon. Scott Ogbemudia, the Chancellor Ovia-North East LGA represented by his Special Adviser Mr. Collins. The programme started with an opening prayer followed by the national Anthem. Prof. Kensington gave the opening remark which followed immediately with the first and second lecture by Prof Omoruyi and Mr. Aghahowa respectively. This then followed with the lunching of the END CRIME END VIOLENCE campaign which was supported by Prof Kensington with N30,000. The project rounded up at about 1pm after the closing prayer, National Anthem and Refreshment.
